Farewell 30Rock

Follow my blog with Bloglovin
I am in a weird depression over the series finale of 30Rock happening tonight.  Anyone else feel me?  It is SUCH a good show, and before Parks and Rec came on the scene, it was one of the funniest half hours on TV.  I'll admit that towards the end here it has gotten a little weird, but I can still count on it weekly to make me audibly LOL.

I will always remember you fondly...

Is anyone else super sad about this?

Anniversary Weekend Recap

Since our anniversary fell on a Monday, we have been celebrating since Saturday, lol.
Saturday night we went over to my Mom's house because the top of our wedding cake had been living in her freezer since last year.  She was eager to get that space back!  Since we were taking the trip out there I thought it would be fun to recreate our wedding meal!  That is the chicken oscar I made!  It wasn't Petroleum Club caliber but it was pretty close!  I also made really delicious garlic mashed potatoes and home made rolls.  It is one of the better meals I have made in my day!

Year old frozen wedding cake doesn't keep it's looks too well. But the taste was not too bad at all.  My Mom wrapped that sucker up really well, and it was totally edible!
We decided to go out to dinner for our anniversary on Sunday night, due to the plans we had on Saturday night and the fact that I am obsessed with watching The Bachelor on Monday nights...yeah, I know.
We ended up going to The Downtown Aquarium Restaurant because I had never been and it looked really cool.

The ambiance was cool with the fish tank visible from anywhere you sit in the restaurant.  I guess the fish don't get freaked out that you are chowing on their cousins right in front of them.  Aside from that cool feature, everything else was a letdown.  It was loud, tons of kids (shoulda known...) the food was overpriced and not very good.  The drinks were good, and our service was decent, it just wasn't what we were expecting.  Oh well, now we know!
Monday night was fun, Aaron cooked a fancy steak dinner at home.  And brought me flowers and presents.  Single ladies - marry a man who cooks and thank me later! ;)
Someone should clean up that bookshelf in the back...

The apartment didn't burn down, so that was nice

After we stuffed our faces I got to watch The Bachelor (<3), Teen Mom, and Catfish while eating even more cake and having tasty pink champagne, also called Pink.

It was a great 3 day long celebration! :)

Next week's theme: THE SUPERBOWL
1. Do you watch the actual game or only watch for commercials and half time?
2. Which team did you want to make it to the Superbowl?
3. Which team will you root for? The Ravens or the 49ers?

Hope to see you next week for SNUGGLE SATURDAY!

The year was 1994, and I was a nice little 12 year old 7th grader in jr. high.  Fun times, yes?  Now I know this happened NINETEEN years ago, but when I re-live it in my mind my face turns flush.
I was a shy kid.  I am a pretty shy adult too, at least until I get to know you.  Most people think I am a total B when they meet me because I don't talk to them, but it is just because I am scared.  I always think people won't like me until I 'win them over' in a way, so I want to learn what people are about before I expend effort communicating with them until I can figure a style that will charm them.  It is very scientific, and I am also a weirdo.  Tell me something I don't know!
So when I was in 7th grade I joined the choir, because I totally rule at singing.  Seriously, like a combination of Fergie and Jesus. (lol) Singing in a choir is perfect for the shy kid who loves singing, because you aren't singled out.  Naturally since I was an easily embarrassed kid I would nearly make myself ill with nervousness every time I was required to sing by myself.  Plus our choir director was this youngish maybe 25 year old guy, and all young guys scared me back then too.  Then I turned 14 and all bets were off...but I digress.

I am totally going to date myself, but back in 1994 cassette tapes were a thing, and we would have to bring blank ones in to get accompaniment music for our songs that we would perform for solo & ensemble contests and stuff.  We'd bring our director the blank tape and he'd make us copies of our music so we could practice at home.  Easy enough.

One of these times I needed to bring a tape in, and I had forgotten the whole entire week.  So I just grabbed one of the several I had, and I really quick checked to make sure it wasn't recorded with anything important on it like all my favorite songs I taped from the radio.  That is old-school bootlegging right there...  But the tape was blank, so I dropped it off with the choir director that day in school, and thought nothing of it.

Here is where the shameful part comes in.  As I said before, I was a really good at singing back in the day, but this didn't just happen naturally.  Oh no.  This was pre-internet days, and I never really got too into video games and stuff.  Reality TV wasn't even a thing yet either, so I didn't have a thing to do.  No, in my free time, I would record myself singing songs on tapes and them replay them to hear how good I was, and perhaps some areas I could improve on.  I thought that the sound of me singing in my head can't be entirely accurate, so if I hear a recording I can confirm my talent.  I was bored, gimme a break!  lol.  One last preface, this was also before I had a refined taste in music, so lets not judge little 12 year old Natalie....

Well I got my tape back from school the next week and my choir director says - here you go, that was some good Mariah Carey on there ::smirk::.  "uuuh, that wasn't me, that was my sister..." ::runs out of the room:: (I have no sister).  I thought as I ran to catch the bus "oh crap, I bet I am singing along to a dang Mariah Carey song on that tape, whhhhy didn't I check the other side, why???"  Then even more terrible thoughts come, what if he thought I had that song on the tape on purpose??  Like I wanted some notes or feedback on it??.  Why am I so weird, who does this?!  OMG, I am beyond embarrassed, I could have just died.

So as soon as I get home I check the tape to assess the damage.  OMG.  I was singing along to Mariah Carey's Emotions (to see if I could hit those high notes of course).  (could I have picked a lamer song?)  So I am listening.  I hear my voice making these inhuman shrieks trying to hit those Mariah notes. :\   I absolutely want to die knowing that ANYONE let alone my choir director had heard this.  I sounded like a pterodactyl in distress.  He knows I don't have a sister.  I could just die.

I know, right.
I don't know how I got through Jr High choir having had this happen, I don't think I ever looked that guy in the eye again past that day.  I think I might be embarrassed still if I ran into him on the street or something!  To this day I really get nervous singing solo if others can hear.  Granted this is not my most embarrassing moment of my life, because that is totally not appropriate for the internets, especially because it happened in my adult life and it is totally shameful, but this is def the most embarrassing story of my childhood.
The plus side of having these humiliating experiences behind me, nothing is really all that embarrassing anymore.  So there's that.  lol.
I am looking forward to reading everyone's elses embarrassing stories.  I hope they aren't as bad as mine!
Next week's theme: THE SUPERBOWL

I am in a mood.

I don't know what crawled up my backside today, but I am in an awful mood.  Like I just want to rip the head off of the next person who steps in my office.  For no reason, of course.  So it is a good day to link up with two link ups of the same gist - Allie and Brin have Pit& Peak, Stephanie and Sarah have happies and crappies.

*Today is Friday and also my boss is out of the office.  So all I want is to be left in peace so I can read blogs and do my thing, yet the phone hasn't stopped ringing and everyone is bothering me for stuff left and right.  Is it so much to ask that you know how to do you job or find an answer without having to involve me??  ugh.

*I need to get a 'passport' style photo taken for my application to the state board to get going for my CPA exam and the days I have time to do that on my lunch break are days I am rockin a gross ponytail and looking like garbage.  The days I dressed like an actual person with a professional job, I didn't have time to get it done.  I will get this done Saturday.

*You know those fruit & yogurt parfaits that McDonald's sells?  Well I knocked one off my desk this morning onto my shirt, inside my shoe, the carpet, the wheel of my desk chair, etc.  I am so over today.  I am a deflated balloon.

*It is my anniversary weekend!  We made it!

*It's Shark Tank night!

*Snuggle Saturday is tomorrow!  Last week I started a new link up with Sarah K, and we had a pretty good turn out for being total amateurs.  It was encouraging!  Perhaps you will join us tomorrow - the theme is to share an embarrassing story, so it should be fun! :)

I feel a bit better now.  :)
Thanks for stopping by!

Coffee Talk!

It is Thursday, so no doubt it will be a busy day at work!  Ergo, here is a fun little link up from Natalie @ 23seventeen!  I love her, she is really cool :)
1. Do you drink the milk after eating cereal or do you dump it out?
I always drink it.  It feels wasteful not to.

2. Do you share drinks/food?
I don't mind it.  I typically will with only Aaron or my bff, but I probably wouldn't mind too much sharing with most people.  Maybe not a kid though, due to the slobber content of said food and drink.

3. How often do you replace your toothbrush?
Whenever it starts to look gross?  I know it is bad, but there are far too many things going on in my head to remember the 3 month mark of my toothbrush.  Is that gross?  Maybe so, oh well.

4. How often do you wash your hair?
Every other day.  I have curly hair, so washing it daily dries it out way too much.

5. Do you use a dishwasher or do you hand wash your dishes?
Dishwasher!!!  Let me tell you, I used to live in this darling vintage apartment brownstone place in the historic district down the road.  It was the cutest!  But there was no dishwasher in there and after that experience, I wouldn't wish a no-dishwasher house to my worst enemy.  Well at least not if you cook as much as I do!  It was awful.  AND there were only 3 plugs/outlets in the entire place.  Three!  Beware of being charmed by buildings from the 40's, you have been warned!

The Facts of Me.

I am at a loss for inspiration, so luckily I found this great link up to join :)
Some facts:
1.  I love cheese way more than any person should.  It is the perfect food.  Once I was doing one of those myspace surveys a thousand years ago and was asked - if you were a Barbie doll, what would your accessories be?  I chose an ipod and a wedge of cheese...true story.
2.  I might be the most clumsy person you will ever encounter.  If there is a tiny pebble in my path, I will trip over it.  Something within 5 inches from the edge of a table, I will knock it off.  Anything breakable or spillable sitting on the floor, kiss it goodbye.  This frustrates Aaron to no end because often times he sits on the floor and leaves his half filled coke can there, or some headphones, and they break and spill every time.  I wish he would learn his lesson...I feel bad about it, but it is just who I am.
3.  I am an angry driver, and I hate it.  Driving in Houston is a challenge because traffic is sooooo bad, so I am already at an anger disadvantage, but it gets ugly at times.  If you are making an unprotected left turn and don't pull forward into the intersection, if you are turning too slow in front of me, if you tailgate me when I am already going 10 over the speed limit, if you are going less than the speed limit, if you drive in my blind spot for more than 5 seconds.  Basically if you are doing it, I think you are doing it wrong and inconsiderately, and I hate you.  It is a problem I severely need to work on before I give myself a stroke.
Well that was fun, wasn't it? lol

Les Mis made me depressed, and other weekend happenings

It's Monday!
I use the exclamation only because it is The Bachelor night, which is the best end to a Monday ever.

I had a pretty good weekend.  Friday night we got together with the fam for my little brother's birthday dinner at Saltgrass Steakhouse.  It was yum, but I majorly over-ate and was up until like 2:30 in the AM because my stomach wouldn't stop churning and being uncomfortable.  My secret weapon to any stomach distress is to eat a pickle.  I don't know the science behind it, but it works about 98% of the time.  I recommend it to everyone!  But this was one of the 2% of times where it didn't work, so I just stayed up because it was the weekend!

Saturday was good.  Sarah K and I started a new linkup (our first ever!) and we had 9 participants, which was about 5 more than I was expecting, so that was super exciting. :)  At home I just got sucked into an MTV truelife marathon and didn't do anything the entire day.  It was very relaxing, but more unproductive than I would have liked.  I also got really T.O.ed that Aaron didn't go to work, so my 4 hours of alone time I was looking forward to all week was blown.  I go into more ranting detail in the Sunday Confessions post.  I'm over it now though.  Mostly.  lol.

Sunday we overslept and thus skipped church AGAIN.  Boo.  But I had made plans with my mom to go to brunch and to see Les Mis finally, so I headed out to do that.  OMG that movie was so great.  I love the story, but it is darn depressing, and I still feel like I have a depressed hangover from it that carried in to today.  The story is so much more than just a story (as is most classic literature) so it really gets you reflecting on your own soul, morality and place in the world afterwards.  Even though I am certain I am part of the emotionally vulnerable population who eats this stuff up, I highly highly recommend it.
What's with today today?
So that was the weekend.  Hopefully I will get out of my funk today and have something good to write tomorrow, lol.  I am sure these gals will snap me out of it.
It is hard to be sad when you have catty gals to laugh at!
How was your weekend?

Sunday Confessions

I am linking up with Alyx today for some Sunday confessions!
1. I didn't clean a thing this weekend
I am deeming this lazy turd weekend because I sat on my butt and watched hours of TV instead of cleaning up any part of this pig sty I live in.  I partially blame Aaron.  I can not be productive when he is here, our laziness just builds off one another.
2. Aaron didn't go to work yesterday, and I was so mad.
Aaron is a grad student and allegedly still works at Target, yet he only gets like 12 hours per week, and decided to not go in yesterday afternoon.  I could have punched through a cement wall I was so angry.  I get so angry because I NEVER get to have the place to myself.  Aaron is a grad student so he works from home, plus he never goes out with friends or anything, so the only time he isn't at home are those few precious Target shifts, and it was ripped away from me.  This would have been prime time for me to get some chores done too, but I rebelled.  I can't even remember the last time I was by myself in my home, and I am about ready to crack.  He wasn't even sick, he was totally fine, which is why I really got mad.  Then I think about how it is bull that I have to get up and go to work every morning whether I feel like it or not, and he has such a cavalier attitude about his job even though isn't his real job.  I think he may have quit and is lying to me about still working there.  Ok, this turned rantier than I intended, I'll stop.
3. I need to get on the ball
I am slacking in all areas and I need to step it up.  I def need to get rolling on my CPA stuff because with each passing day my knowledge is escaping my brain.  Need to get organized.
4. Going on a Mom date today
We are gonna go see Les Mis I think (FINALLY) and have a fancy lunch at Brio.  Looking forward to it!
That is all I have for today, hope you can join us!

Snuggle Saturday: Week 2
Share an embarrassing story.

This week's question:
If you could have dinner with one historical figure, who would you choose and why?
This was so hard to narrow down!  Of all the people I could meet, who would I pick??
I would want to meet Maria Skobtsova.  Otherwise known as Mother Maria of Paris - she is my patron saint.  I'd want to meet her so I could learn from her, and get schooled on how I can be a better servant of God in my own way.

I chose MS as my patron saint when I joined the Orthodox church because her story resonated with me and who I am.  She was a saint who was maybe less saintly to the naked eye.  She liked a good beer and a cigarette from time to time, had two failed marriages and was even an athiest for a time after her father died when she was young.  Kind of a beatnik in her times, she was a poet and part of literary circles and loved to discuss politics and theology and other intellectual topics.  She is so someone I would hang out with today, for sure!

I think a lot of people get turned off from Christianity sometimes because they aren't that girl or guy that is endlessly sweet and can quote all the bible verses off the top of their heads and seem so perfect.  But Mother Maria is a saint for crying out loud AND a smoker!  It gives me hope that when I feel like I am not enough to be a good example to others as a Christian, all I need to do is love - then I know I am doing it right.

For years I did not know, in fact I never knew the meaning of repentance, but now I am aghast at my own insignificance [...]. At Nastia's side I feel that my soul has meandered down back alleys all my life. And now I want an authentic and a purified road, not out of faith in life, but in order to justify, understand and accept death [...]. No amount of thought will ever result in any greater formulation than the three words, 'Love one another', so long as it is [love] to the end and without exceptions. And then the whole of life is illumined, which is otherwise an abomination and a burden. [from papers collected by Mother Maria's mother Sophia Pilenko]
She had a lot of trials in her life, but it didn't keep her from following God and loving her fellow man.  When she became a nun, she wasn't in a monastary, she wanted to live among the people, and spread the faith in a more proactive way.  She ultimately was killed in a concentration camp, and elevated to sainthood in the Orthodox church in 2004.
So I think she would have a lot to teach me, which is why I would choose to have dinner with her.
We'd probably hit up Cheesecake Factory.  ;)

Happy Birthday Jeff!

There are only a handful of people whom I would dedicate a post to on here because they are that special to me, and today that day belongs to my newly 25 (yikes!) year old brother, Jeff!!

Jeff is probably the coolest little brother that one could have.  Sorry if you thought your own little brother was the best.  He might still be pretty good, just not this good.

Jeff Loves America
And the Texans

Jeff is also a great travelling brother
In Tokyo.
Washington DC.
And Jeff is a good brother to not just me:
But a bunch of equally crazy dudes.
And he is a really excellent cook
despite making bacon/sausage missiles inspired by stuff he finds on the internet...
Best of all
He is hilarious.
I think funny runs in our family... ;)
Happiest Birthday to you Jeff!  Though you ripped away the joy of being an only child many years ago, I am so so glad I get to have a brother like you.  I love you!!!
PS - don't forget to link up with Sarah K and I for Snuggle Saturday tomorrow!!!
